4 Fitness Books to Read

Working out is an excellent way to maintain a healthy weight and to build a lean physique. However, there are hundreds of exercises to choose from. Some work certain body parts while others work more than one. There are also different types of workouts to consider. Like many, I had trouble deciding on which exercise program to dedicate to while keeping in mind time and money. Luckily, I came across books that provided ideal workouts.

1. Convict Conditioning by Paul "Coach" Wade
Wade shares an exercise program he developed while serving his time in prison. He includes exercises that he calls the "big six power moves". Each of them should be performed to strengthen different parts of the body. There are sample workout programs to help those interested get started. Wade explains that the best workout includes exercises that are performed using just the body, which are also known as calisthenic exercises. He also compares the benefits of bodyweight training to modern methods.

2. Convict Conditioning 2 by Paul "Coach" Wade
In this book, Wade shares his experience at prison and how it has shaped him into the person he is today. He also expands on the workout from his first book, Convict Conditioning. A modern athlete, no matter how devoted he is to fitness, is likely to neglect working some parts. For those who wish to develop an overall healthy and strong body, Wade has included exercises for the most neglected parts. They're for the neck, hands, forearms, obliques, and calves. Because his exercise program focuses on progression of exercises, Wade includes joint training. It is a series of active stretches performed to condition the joints for the harder steps.

3. Convict Conditioning: The Super F.A.Q. by Paul "Coach" Wade
In both Convict Conditioning books, Wade speaks to the readers as if they're his own students through specific diction and powerful language. Initially, he may seem more of a drill sergeant than a coach, but he is challenging his readers to complete his exercise program. He cares enough about his readers to write a book devoted to answering any lingering questions they may have. Many of these questions are even written word for word to avoid confusion.

4. Never Gymless by Ross Enamait
Enamait introduces the reader to home-based exercise program that voids the need for gym equipment. These workouts include bodyweight exercises for strength, endurance, and speed. Enamait also includes workouts for those who prefer using equipment, such as isometric training. Like Wade, he includes sample workout programs to help the reader come up with his own workout. He also sheds light on nutrition for a healthier lifestyle.

I hope that you enjoy reading these books as much as I did reading them and writing about them. You may choose to follow any of these exercise programs. Or you may decide to continue your current workout or come up with your own. Nonetheless, never lose sight of your goals for fitness - work hard and you will see results!
