Shoes are something that almost every girl splurge on, or is tempted to. With the innumerable different styles, colors, and designs, how can one resist? The answer is this: buy only the essentials. These shoes will go with most of your outfits. In this checklist, I give you the types of shoes I think every girl should own.
1. Gym shoes
These are not to be mixed up with sneakers, which are worn for that laid-back look. Gym shoes should be worn when running or playing sports, or doing any form of physical activity outside. Given that, they look great with athletic apparel, including tank tops, t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, and sweatpants.
2. Sneakers
Not to worry if you want to look cute and casual at the same time. Sneakers look adorable with everything from tank tops to blouses, shorts to skirts, and everything in between. There is a variety of these shoes, with the most popular being Converses, Vans, Toms, and Keds. I would purchase a pair of white Keds to wear with my Spring and Summer outfits.
3. Boots
Leaves changing color, beginning of school, what else reminds you of autumn? That's right, boots! Boots keep your feet warm and your outfit look put-together. In particular, dark neutral-colored boots are easy to wear and add style to many outfits. I love wearing black knee-high boots with a pair of skinny jeans and a thick, cozy sweater!
4. Flats
Are you looking to dress to impress with shoes? I am, but I'm not talking about with heels. I'm thinking of a more painless solution while keeping style in mind - it's called flats. Flats can be worn with many clothing pieces, from casual tank tops and jeans to formal blouses and skirts. Stand out from the crowd of black flats with navy blue, beige (my favorite), or how about silver or gold.
5. Pumps
That's not to say you shouldn't have a pair of heels in your shoe wardrobe. Pumps are the perfect shoes for more formal wear and special occasions. Feel free to wear them when you need a pick-me up or on days you feel less than beautiful. On the other hand, there's no need to feel like you're walking on stilts - two to three inches is comfortable for most women. I myself own a pair of two-inch black pair of wedges.
6. Sandals
It's time for your feet to shine - so moisturize your heels and toes well and keep the toenails trimmed! Sandals look fabulous with a variety of Spring and Summer outfits. It's choosing the type that's hard - there's thongs (or T-straps), gladiators, slip-ons, sling-backs - you get the idea. I like wearing a pair of white T-strap sandals with light-airy skirts and dresses.
Keep in mind that the six types of shoes I listed are only the essentials. However, they can still be used to define a girl's personality and style. Because my dominant style is classic, I tend to stick with neutral colors and minimal details. You can use a different color palette and a variety of textures and patterns to enhance your own style. Happy shoe shopping!
